The Beginning to My Personal Research Journey

This course on Building Research Competencies requires us to choose a research question for simulated research.  I have been having a difficult time narrowing down my topic to a specific question that is appropriate for the remainder of the course.  As I filled out my chart this week, one of the insights I gained from the readings was that this can be a difficult part of the process for anyone participating in research.  Especially in the field of Early Childhood Education where there are many facets and various contributing fields of study like psychology, communication, social and emotional balance, etc.

I think I will struggle with many aspects of the simulation and believe that this course in particular is one where I will look to my colleagues and instructors for guidance and knowledge.  It is important to be able to ask for assistance and to help one another as we begin the journey through simulated research.

  1. Hi Caroline,
I agree that this part of the course has been challenging for me, as well. I have changed my topic three times. I am close to narrowing it done, which I am happy about so far. This course has been difficult for me. I know that with everyone helping one another; we can all get through it. Keep up what you are doing and you will succeed. Great truthful blog.

  2. Hello Caroline,
It is tough to think about. Are you working in the early childhood field? If so, think about the one thing that is happening there that makes you wonder..Look around and ask "Why do we do this?" It can be as simple as why do we have certain policies in place?
If you are not in the early childhood field, you can choose a lot of topics. Look into HeadStart and how it affects families..Readiness is also a big topic right now..
It is hard, but keep thinking about what is on your mind..
    Best of luck,
    julianne

  3. Hi Caroline! This class seems like it is challenging for many of us, in some way. As you narrow down you search for you simulation, think about why you decided to enter the ECE field. There has got to be a few feelings, interests, etc. that spark you as an individual and professional. Are you currently working in the field? I feel when we are in the field we are gaining experience as well as opinions as we see the way the field is run. Personally, I have questions about topics related to children and am eager and hopeful as I search for the appropriate research.
Please let me know if I can help in any way as you continue your simulation.

  4. Dear Caroline, No worries, I am with you. I think finding an appropriate topics for the research and subtopics for the simulation is not easy. We need to scope it and narrow it to a more manageable simulation. That is the challenge! My topics is also too board that I have to sort it out too! So you are not alone. I think we can do it step by step with the guidance from Dr Kien.
